TViX
Network Media Player (NMP) and HDTV DVR
Like
many Home Theater PC (HTPC) users, you've stored tons of files from CD,
DVD and HDTV recorders and camcorders over the years. The files are
diverse (see the file types in the diagram below). It could be
stored on multiple hard drives or computers, or even a Network Attached
Storage (NAS). What's the simplest hassle-free way to play all
those files without building an HTPC for every location, maybe even
replace one with an easy to use Media Player?
There
are currently a variety of Media Players on the market. Many use
Syabas' Network Media Tank firmware based on Linux and requires the
internal hard drive to be formatted as EXT2 or 3 to install programs
that enhances the operation of the Media Player. TViX utilizes a
proprietary firmware by DVICO that's design to be used in primarily in
conjunction with Windows environment and the recommended hard disk
format is NTFS. TViX also support Apple's MAC environment using
FAT as the hard disk format .

The
Media Player market is currently dominated by Sigma Design video
processors and functions depend on the chip revisions. The most
current version available on the market use the SMP8635 that features
Blu-Ray file decoding, but use of that particular chip does not
automatically mean that function is supported as that depends on the
firmware features. Don't assume they all play the same file types, check
the manual for what the player supports.
The most
compelling reason to buy the TViX-HD
is the networking functions that allows the Media Player to access up to
four PC hard drives on the network, in addition to Network Attached
Storage, internal SATA drive, and external USB drive and memory sticks.
TViX supports SMB or NFS protocols for network access as shown above.
Once connected to the network, you're ready to play music, photo, or
video files via LAN in up to 1080p high resolution output.

Third
party programs are available to enhance your graphical interface using
icon mode and movie cover art and synopsis to personalize your TViX.
Weather
you're a PC novice or expert, the TViX is a simple device to setup and
use. Optional features include an HDTV (ATSC) tuner for
over-the-air HDTV reception and recording. Connect an antenna to
the TViX with the HDTV tuner and you're ready to watch all of your local
