The first InFocus projector I owned was the
LP350 which used P&D connectors. I remember the initial frustration and the
ensuing aggravation of trying to find long enough cable and/or adapter to connect my home
theater PC to the unit. Worse yet, this projector only had the P&D, so a longer
VGA cable was out. The best I could muster was a long VGA extension.
With the release of
InFocus' ScreenPlay
7200, I would have wagered that industry standard DVI connector would be used. Glad
I didn't because I opened the box and experienced that sinking feeling. This time
around, the P&D to VGA cable wasn't even in the package. Beat my head on the
wall while cursing, take a big breath, make a few irate calls, and then I was on my way to
solve the problem once and for all.
Shown above is the answer to the problem of
the P&D connector, otherwise known as the InFocus doo-hickey. The device works
perfectly, allowing you to choose your own DVI cables of various lengths, which is crucial
when ceiling mounting is required. Use of adapters may result in slight loss of
signal, but the doo-hickey worked great with 10, 20, and even 30ft.
cable.
